Community

community shadow As well as working in learning environments, I enjoy community projects that have an impact on how a community experiences where they live or can act as catalysts for positive change.  My approach is always sensitive to both the needs and wellbeing of individuals and to the group as a whole. Some examples of past projects are below:

iSite at the Lakeside Arts Centre

Fi developed and delivered a series of workshops for young people, designed to enable further engagement with the Arts Centre, Gallery and exhibitions as well as developing photographic, film and creative skills.

Jericho House

Fi worked with residents and support workers as film documenter of an annual programme facilitated by artist Paul Davies. This drama based creative process enables residents to reflect upon their life experience with regard to their drug use and then put this into a performance which informs, educates and give hope to others like them, and their families or anyone affected by drug use.

Storymoves Inclusive Theatre Research and Development Project

A pilot programme created by Jen Sumner of Storymoves; the formation of a Drama and Movement group for young adults with moderate learn difficulties with a view to developing an ongoing inclusive Theatre Company.  Fi supported the development and sessions by filming the process, the thoughts and feelings. Derwent Valley Mills, Sites & Visions

Fi was both project & creative manager of this lasting educational resource in the form of a DVD and web. Sites & Visions was developed for teachers and community groups to enhance engagement with this World Heritage site and it’s history through the arts. See Derwent Valley Mills website

Ghana

A group of 10 filmmakers from the East Midlands visited the new Academy of Screen Arts, in Ghana, West Africa on a voluntary basis to train the academy’s first intake of students in documentary making. Fi’s role was production supervisor – assisting in many aspects of production, training (and image making) of a 10-minute documentary about road traffic accidents – Ghana’s biggest killer.
